Mermaid

Today I decided to wear the outfit I had really wanted to wear last Thursday when I was channeling The Little Mermaid. It's not even that outrageous or anything, it just wasn't warm enough last Thursday.  Anyway, this outfit sort of channels Ariel to me.  Maybe I'm crazy though.

I could not get enough of The Little Mermaid when I was young.  I was around 8 years old when it was in theaters (yeah I'm dating myself, I don't care).  I was so excited to have my own copy on VHS and I am so surprised I didn't wear it out with how much I watched it over and over again.  And then when I wasn't watching it, I was in my room acting it out with my Ariel doll and stuffed Flounder the fish.  I knew every word of that thing frontwards and backwards.  My favorite part was the music and my mom used to say that's how she knew I'd be a singer someday, when I would sing all the songs from the movie.  So, there you go, further proof that I was a huge geek back then, and hey, not much has changed!

This bag is the deal of the century, thrifted for $5.00.  It's huge and roomy and such fun colors for spring.  The only part I'm not sure on yet is it has no cell phone pocket.  Gasp.  I'm so used to that now, it's hard to adjust, but my Haiku pouch fits nicely inside here, so that's where my phone goes in this bag for now.  I'm going to give it a fair try, but at least it was cheap if in the end I just don't like it.

It's finally warm again too!  Hurray!  Welcome spring, please say you are here to stay!  Though I hear storms loom for later today.  I don't care, I'm going to bask in the glory of a warm spring day until then!

Outfit rundown:
Dress as skirt - Ragstock
Shirt - Donna (from cousin)
Sandals - Mootsie Tootsie
Bag - Thrifted
Belt - unknown
Necklace - Premier Jewelry

  1. Hehehe love the outfit. Also love the Little Mermaid. I watched it a lot on VHS. I also acted out scenes from it in a peach bralette my mom found at a garage sale and a nightgown that I'd pull down around my legs so it fit like a loose skirt/tail. I didn't bother singing because even at that age, I think I knew I was tone deaf and no one wanted to listen to that shizz.

It's raining here already, but FINALLY I SEE GREEN so I can almost deal with it.

  2. Very cute. I'd have never known the skirt is actually a dress. And the bag's design is nice.

When you talk about dating yourself by referring to TLM, I know you mean how old you are but, to me, it says how young you are. I was an adult when that came out. Which would make it odd for me to say I enjoyed it too, so I won't say that... I'll just hint at it...

  3. The paisley print on the "skirt" is so pretty! I too was obsessed with the Little Mermaid! What little girl didn't want to be Ariel?

  7. I was obsessed with Aladdin as a kid. Why my blond haired-blue eyed kid self decided to identify with Jasmine is beyond me! I was equally obsessed with the Little Mermaid. I think during those years they also came out with the sequels and television versions of the movies.

I still remember seeing the Lion King in theaters. Beautiful! I saw it again when it came back around recently. Disney movies still hold a lot of weight with our childhoods.

I love your Ariel inspired looks. I can totally see the undersea inspiration. The brightly colored paisley has an almost anemone feel.

  9. Cute! Love that skirt, and you're right, that bag was a score. Maybe you could sew a little cell phone pouch onto the inside?

    Happy Wednesday :)
