As my mom would say, I'm a day late and a dollar short on Everybody, Everywear once again - but I say better late than never! I had totally forgotten to look to see what the theme was before yesterday and then once I saw it was "back to school" I wanted to do an outfit because I thought it would be fun! So, here is my back to school look!
I went for a preppy look, plaid button shirt and khaki skirt. Truth be told though - I wouldn't have worn this to school back in the day. When I was little, I loved wearing dresses and skirts. I stopped wearing them somewhere around 4th grade though. Then I entered a hideous phase I'd love to forget called "oversized shirts with leggings or bike shorts". Oh 1990's. By the time I was in about seventh grade I was into more jeans and t-shirts/sweatshirts or flannels (still the 90s) and that was my uniform more or less through high school. I was just a casual girl for the most part, somewhat frumpy, no nicer way of saying it. I'm not saying I was Josie Grossie, but style just wasn't that big to me back then! But hey, I still got the boy - the Pants Monkey was my high school sweetheart, we started dating our sophomore year. Still, I'd love to go shake my 16 year old self and tell her that denim overalls are just not that awesome. Man I wish I could show you guys some pictures. I'll have to see what I can do to scan some in at some point!
So anyway, if I could go back in time, I'd encourage my teenage self to wear something like this on the first day of school. It's simple, chic and comfy! Ban the baggy sweatshirts Teenage Bethie! Just say no! He he.
Were you stylish in school or did you choose comfort over style like me?
Outfit rundown:
Shirt - Mossimo, Target
Skirt - Old Navy
Shoes - DSW
Necklace - S&D
Bracelet - Bead for Life
Ha ha! I would like to THINK I was fashionable but looking back I want to say EEK! at my teenage self, lol. Flannel shirts, baggy pants, Doc Martens that was pretty much me in high school.
ReplyDeleteI do love your back to school outfit you picked out! Heather
I was never stylish or "in" during high school at all. I wasn't so terribly out of it when I started PSEO, but most of my outfits revolved around what I could look cute but be worn in the darkroom! Love the outfit dear!
ReplyDeleteI really like this look on you! The pencil skirt suits you to a T.
ReplyDeleteI was very stylish in high school - it was the 80s! I wore so many crazy fun looks. I got stared at a lot, but it was part of figuring out who I was.
Love the preppy look, Beth! Those flats are adorable. I'd like to think I was stylish back in HS but I probably wasn't, haha.

LOL! Oh the 90s, what a wonderful time that was. You do NOT want to see or hear about some of the horrible things I wore during that decade! It's so sweet that you and your husband were high school sweethearts, I love it! I also love the preppy vibe of this outfit :)
ReplyDeleteOh funny! I always loved fashion, even when I was in high school. The only problem was that I was super matchy matchy!!!! (I blame my mother and her obsession with matching her shoes to her bags) but hey, it's all about evolving right?
ReplyDeleteThis outfit is such a cute back to school look!
I really wanted to join this time but forgot about it- oh well! I like your shirt- you look great! And thanks for commenting on my book post- seriously every UK blogger who reads my blog TOTALLY shuns my bookposts so I was touched you'd read AND commented! The TV series of Little House was on the TV on Sunday lunchtimes when I was a little girl but I never watched it- I wish I had done!
ReplyDeleteI was late getting my post up there too, have no fear! Love the mustard skirt and your flats are so adorable too! I'd like to shake my denim overalls loving 16-yr. old self as well...as you said, oh the 90's!
ReplyDeleteI was totally the oddball girl wearing a skirt or dress in the midst of the grunge era! ;) Despite the fact that I was a teen in the early nineties I have never (and will never) owned a giant flannel shirt! ;) Now, I did succumb to the weird romper things in early junior high (the ones with the bands around the ankles in some laura ashley print with a giant white collar). Even the thought makes me shudder. What were we thinking. ;)
ReplyDeleteLove your classy skirt look! ;)
I wore a lot of denim overalls too, but they were usually paired with ridiculous baby t's. Oh, the 90s!
ReplyDeleteThis look is totally making me want fall. It's very autumnal/preppy. I don't even like thinking about what I wore back in the day. I was one of those mall-rat goths, I shopped at Hot Topic, wore the huge pants, 5 inch platform boots and Chuck Taylors before they were cool again.
ReplyDeleteI love your outfit. Me personally in high school I was the same as you. Jeans, baggy t-shirts, fannels and sweatshirts. Which a majority of my sweatshirts were tennis or choir related.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it funny to think back about what we thought was cool to wear back in high school?! :) I really like this skirt on you! I feel like we haven't seen you in skirts in this style before, unless I somehow missed it! :)

I went "funky punky" in high school... at a so-called "preppy" school My mom wanted me to dress preppy, but refused to spend the money it would take to outfit me in the "right" brands (Guess, Reebok, etc.)
ReplyDeleteI caught crap all through H.S. for that, too... *sigh*
I wore a very similar outfit today - but my shirt was a little more blue, and my skirt, well, it was red! But still - great minds think alike!
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I were totally into corduroy pants and plaid shirts in high school! I feel like I had a strong sense of style back then, but I do wish I could take back one particularly disastrous haircut!
ReplyDeleteOh this is probably my favorite look of yours so far! I love it! I was a 90's child too, I lived in flannel! :)
ReplyDeleteI had to wear a uniform EVERY DAY for 12 years, so when I got to college I had no idea how to pick out an oufit! :) Love this on you! Such a great outfit!
