One week down

You guys....this no shopping thing is hard this time around!  I really do not NEED anything, but man, sales are tempting me and I keep seeing things in my closet and going "how else can I wear that item?  It needs something else."  Take for example, this pink gingham shirt.  I wore it once with the sweater it was gifted to me with, but have been at a loss since then.  Of course, the more I looked around, I realized I had many options, including this blazer I haven't actually worn in quite some time.  So, in the end, I know it's best for me to keep shopping my closet.  I'm really excited about how this outfit turned out.

I feel a bit like Ellen DeGeneres in this outfit, but you know what, I love Ellen, so I don't mind.  I'm not kidding though, this gingham shirt is from JCPenney and she's been their spokesperson and I swear I've seen her wearing it on her show!

Blazer - F21
Shirt - JCPenney
Pants - Sonoma, thrifted
Bag - Coach Factory Outlet
Necklace - S&D
Shoes - Madden Girl, thrifted

At least it's one week down on the shopping ban.  I know I'll get by, and if I remind myself that I sort of did this for Lent, it makes sense, it should be a sacrifice - but as I said last week, I decided to do it for more than just Lent, I just really needed to do it.  And once I'm off the ban I just need to start taking more of a budgeted approach to my shopping, which you'd probably assume with so much thrift shopping would be pretty easy, but it does add up after awhile.  Just need to learn a good balance.

  1. I love this gingham shirt paired with the blazer. It's definitely got a preppy vibe going. You should try layering the shirt under a dress or pattern mixing it with florals maybe? Gingham screams spring and summer to me :) Heather

  3. Love that shirt! I think that it would look cute tucked into a high-wasted black pencil skirt with that jacket, black tights and either black boots or wedges. :) So may possibilities! :) I commend you for the shopping ban - I have been thrifting my heart out lately, I can't give up my addiction! :)

  4. The gingham shirt looks great paired with that preppy blazer! Sometimes it takes a little bit of thinking to figure out what else in your closet can pair with an item.

  5. Try a "one in, one out" approach when you shop - it will help you realize what you really love in your wardrobe. I did it for a full year and it made a huge difference.

I like this outfit - could you tuck the shirt in? The ends look a little unfinished.

    1. Great suggestion! I just gave it a go - the waistline on the pants just don't look quite right though - but with a different pair I think it would work. I'm planning to wear this with a skirt/dress next time, so that should give it a more polished look.

    2. I completely agree with Sheila with the 'one in, one out'. I do that for shoes and bags, it has helped me focus in shops when getting carried away!

  12. I think the shirt looks awesome with that jacket! It's a great shirt, lay it up next to a bunch of stuff. I know that helps me create new ideas.

Giving up shopping is hard, but finding other things to do in lieu of shopping helps. Just don't turn entirely to food blogs and cooking. Lol! I get a little recipe happy if I do that.

  14. I might be kind of bad and shop this weekend. Boyfriend is out of town and the thrift stores are calling me! ;-) I love your look. That pink shirt and blazer look so nice together and you look so polished!

  15. Bethie! Your purse really adds to the ensemble. Isn't that funny / odd how that happens. I am a boring purse person. I don't have a wide variety. That purse is GREAT!

  16. I agree..not shopping is a lot more difficult than I anticipated. Thrifting definitely does add up and I certainly don't need to buy anything more either! It's just a hobby of mine so I have fun shopping...haha. I guess I need a new hobby. I do love this outfit though! That blazer is wonderful and has such great detail. Plus, looking like Ellen isn't a bad thing. I think she's adorable!
