Inspiration Monday - Morning challenges

Man, some Mondays are just such a challenge in the mornings!  I look at how I struggle now and then I go, how am I going to manage with a newborn in a few months!  The answer is simple really, I need to be less lazy at night and get things ready the night before hand.  I think I'll figure that out one of these days!  Anyway, I'm here and I guess that's all that matters for the moment!  And it's Inspiration Monday with two birds!  Today's model is Kate Beckinsale in some super fun patterned pants.

Sadly, I have no fun patterned maternity pants.  And it's also going to be in the low 80's again today because summer just can't let go even if it's October tomorrow.  So I opted for a skirt instead.  And more of a tuxedo jacket than a moto jacket.  It's a "if you blink" type inspired outfit today!

Shirt - White House, Black Market, from cousin
Skirt - Mossimo, Target
Necklace - Clothes Mentor
Shoes - DSW

I gotta say, I'm kind of impressed by my 6 1/2 almost 7 month pregnant self still wearing non-maternity items sometimes!  Again, hooray for stretchy bands!

Did you all have good weekends?  We had some rain on Saturday, but I did a little shopping with my mom. The weather cleared just in time for our very good friend's housewarming party in the evening and we were able to sit outside and enjoy a bonfire.  Sunday was absolutely gorgeous outside, so the Pants Monkey and I took advantage of the weather and visited our local zoo for a bit.  It was crazy to think the next time we go there we could have our baby boy in tow. I can't wait to introduce him to our zoo, it's such a wonderful gem in the middle of our city.

And that's about it.  I'm off to face Monday armed with coffee and a positive attitude.  I can turn this hectic morning around!  Head on over to two birds and check out the other Inspiration Monday looks!

29 and feeling fine

Happy Friday!! It's so nice that it's finally here!  Been having a hectic morning but things seem to be settling down now!  I have so much more to do in the morning now that I'm checking my blood sugar and also I have to make sure to pack myself snacks and all that fun stuff.  It's just crazy.  I know it will all become routine fairly soon though!

The class went well yesterday and so far so good, my following the diet is working well so far, my numbers have been in range.  And I've always said knowledge is power - so I'm glad to know about this stuff and how to control it!

Tank top - Mossimo, Target
Cardigan - Camy Couture
Jean skirt - Liz Lange, consignment
Sandals - Mootsie Tootsie, from cousin
Necklace - Clothes Mentor

I've been wanting to wear this outfit for awhile now, I had this idea in my head over a month ago, but every time I'd think about wearing it then it would get chilly for a couple of days.  Today we're having a last hurrah of summer, so I figured it was a good day to finally give it a go.  I'd totally do this again not pregnant with a regular jean skirt instead of a maternity one!

29 week bump shot for you all!  I feel like he grew quite a bit this week.  My app tells me I'm under 80 days now which sounds like not all that much, but then when I say I still have 11 weeks that sounds a little better.  I can get a lot done in 11 weeks!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Short and sweet

Short on words and short on time today friends.  Going to be a crazy one.  Meetings in the morning, my diabetic class in the afternoon. Somehow I think the day will fly by!

Shoes - Xhilaration, from Lori

When you have a busy crazy day and you're pregnant, comfort is key - therefore, it's jersey maxi dress for the win!  I hope to be back with wittier and more interesting things to say tomorrow.  Until then, have a great day everyone!

Mintstripes

Instead of "pinstripes" I'm wearing "mintstripes".  Get it?  Ok, weak attempt at humor.  I'm tired today.  Darn pregnancy insomnia.  And external noises keeping me awake.  There were a bunch of sirens in our neighborhood around 4 in the morning or so.  Fun!

I got artistic with my bad self again last night.  My sister in law had a Groupon for one of those "paint your own pottery" places.  We had done that kind of thing on a trip to Maine many years ago now and always wanted to do it again.  This deal gave us the perfect opportunity to finally do it.  I picked a travel coffee mug and I'm pretty excited about how it turned out!  They had all sorts of cute things for holidays or your kitchen or just cute things you could put in your home.  I'd like to go back sometime!

Shirt and pants - Liz Lange, Target
Necklace - S&D
Shoes - Italian Shoe Maker, from cousin

After we finished painting, we wandered about some shops that were nearby the pottery place and were open.  Namely several baby/kid stores that were crazy expensive.  It was fun to dream I could afford some of that stuff for this little guy but yeah, kind of ridiculous.  Although this one store had a bunch of local stuff that was kind of cute!  Oh well.  In about a week to 10 days I will have a very cute travel coffee mug, so I look forward to that!

Favorite things

This dress is one of my very favorite things.  I know you're all going - ok Beth, every dress you wear you tell us is one of your favorites ever.  Fine, this dress is one of my favorites ever for FALL.  How's that?  It seriously has some of the best colors for fall.  It's also been in my wardrobe since close to the beginning of this entire blog!  I was looking at it and figured, the waistline is very high in this dress, might I squeeze in at least one wear of it while I'm pregnant?  The answer, happily, is yes!

I was pretty dang excited.  I'm guessing in another month or so it might not be the case, although there is a lot of room in the skirt of this dress.  At any rate, I'm going to enjoy it for today, that's for sure!!

Other favorite things in my outfit today?  Ruffles in the sweater, ruffles in my Jenna Lou bag, tweed on my shoes.  You just can't go wrong when you wear all your favorite types of things.

Dress - Axcess by Clairborne, thrifted
Sweater - Style&Co, consigned

For fun, I searched my archives and found the many other ways I've worn this dress in the last two years.
September 2011, October 2011, March 2012, August 2012, December 2012, January 2013, February 2013, March 2013.  There might be more too, but these are the ones I easily found.  It's been quite a versatile piece I guess!!

Weekend stuffs

Good morning friends!  Happy Monday!  Did you all have nice weekends?  Thanks so much to those who left such sweet comments on my post on Friday.  I'm adjusting to my new normal and it's not so bad so far. The worst has been missing my morning orange juice and not splurging on my weekend latte, but that's been about the hardest thing!  The positive things?  Sugar free butterscotch pudding is really tasty and Crystal Light makes a margarita flavored drink mix.  I think I can rock this thing ok!

Lots of baby stuff this weekend, we took our childbirth preparation class.  Nothing makes this entire thing more real than that, let me tell you.  It was pretty awesome though - the Pants Monkey's aunt is a childbirth educator and ended up being the one teaching the class.  You might think that would be awkward for us, but actually it was really nice.  She's unbelievably awesome and makes you feel so at ease.  We learned a lot and had some great conversations about what we want when the time comes.  I'm glad we did it as early as we did so we have plenty of time to plan.

Shirt - Motherhood Maternity, consignment
Pants - Simply Vera, Kohls
Shoes - Rampage, DSW
Necklace - Vintage Pearl, gift from a friend

Sunday we slept in, then I met up with Lori and we swung into Amanda's fantastic Tandem Vintage sale. Sad panda, she had so many pretty plaid skirts that I'd love to wear this fall, but there is no way the bump will fit at this point!  That's ok though, I found some fun kitty cat earrings and a rather ridiculous cat wall hanging that I'm going to put up with another cat picture a dear friend gave me. Crazy cat lady FTW!  After the sale we went to Target so Lori could help me pick out makeup.  I definitely have some better ideas of what to do with my face now!

I headed home, had a wonderful dinner out on the deck with my Pants Monkey and then settled in to watch the Emmys - what a GIANT disappointment!  I had a mild panic attack because our TV was acting up and we don't have cable so I was worried I wasn't going to be able to watch - yeah, I don't know that it would have been the end of the world to miss this year's show.  It felt like everyone was rushing, struggling to read the teleprompter, the "In Memoriam" spotlights seemed like a good idea but were poorly executed.  And I adore Modern Family, Breaking Bad and Jim Parsons - but at the same time, spread the love a bit on the winners.  I didn't find anyone's dress all that stunning besides maybe Claire Danes - she's always a class act though, that wasn't much of a surprise.  But the show overall was just yuck.  Anyone else watch?  What did you think?

The beetus

Well I have to talk more pregnancy stuff for just a second here today.  I wanted to thank everyone for their good luck and well wishes yesterday - but unfortunately it turns out I do have gestational diabetes.  I had great numbers both for the fasting draw and for the 1st hour draw, but then in the 2nd hour everything went to crap and it shot way up.  By the third hour it was still higher than it should be but it was starting to come back down at least.  So it wasn't the greatest news ever.  Next week I will be meeting with a diabetic counselor and she'll give me guidelines for my diet and blood sugar testing supplies - and of course teach me how to use them.

Upon getting the news I kept it together really well but as soon as I got into my car and got the Pants Monkey on the phone I totally broke down.  I know it's silly, but I felt like I failed somehow and selfish as it sounds, all I could think of was all the apple pie, cookies, ice cream and other goodies I'd be missing for the next couple of months.  Thankfully it was his lunch hour and I didn't have to go back to work, so we agreed to meet for lunch and of course, good hubby he is, he talked me down off the ledge.  It is NOT the end of the world.  I did NOT fail my body.  There are plenty of foods I can have and in fact, may even still be able to have some of those goodies in moderation depending on my numbers that day.  Basically we'll be counting carbs, counting portions and monitoring things every day.  And it most definitely is not forever.  Once you deliver the baby, the disease is gone.  Christmas cookies here I come!

Shirt - OhMamma, thrifted
Jeans - Indigo Blue, thrifted
Shoes - Steve Madden, thrifted
Necklace - S&D

Even though I don't have my "official" dietary guidelines yet I did some research yesterday and did a little grocery shopping to at least get started.  Today I feel much better.  It's a small bump in what has been one of the easiest pregnancies ever.

And speaking of - here's a bump shot because we're 28 weeks today - and that means we're entering the third trimester.  Home stretch baby!  So considering that, this whole diabetic diet thing really doesn't seem so bad!

I also realized this is an entirely thrifted outfit, save for my necklace!  I'm kind of excited about that.  I adore this shirt I bought on the 50% off thrift store day.  It was from a thrift store I thought didn't have a maternity department and was going to skip all together and then my dear friend told me she had found the maternity section in this store on a different trip, so we sought it out and I'm so glad I did!  If I hadn't, I would have this adorable shirt or these awesome jeans.  Any mamas to be out there - I can't say enough good things about Indigo Blue maternity jeans.  I am not sure where you would normally get them, I've been lucky enough to find them at the consignment store, thrift store and Gordmans.  At Gordmans they were in their Motherhood Maternity area, so I'm guessing maybe you'd get them at Motherhood regularly?  At any rate - seek them out, they ROCK.

Have a great weekend everyone - thanks again for listening or well reading and for all the love and support, I so appreciate all of you! For fun, I have to share this video that has been running through my head all week - if you haven't seen it before, it's pretty funny, someone took Wilford Brimley's Diabetes commercials and turned it into a bit of a rap...yeah. You just have to see it to get it.

Sort of Pinspired

Hey peeps!  What better way to pass the time while I'm waiting on my 3 hr glucose than to do some blogging!  Anything to not think about food right?  Anyway, I decided to link up with Heather's Pinned and Did It Link Up again this week.  I attempted an outfit that I feel would be cuter if I wasn't pregnant, but I'll go with what I've got since I am.  Here is the pin:

Here is my take on it.  I will say - this was very cozy on the day of my 1st glucose test.  I do like this denim shirt I got at the maternity consignment shop, but I want to try this look again maybe next spring after baby as long as denim shirts are still in style by then!

Shoes - Xhilaration, Target

Overall it was a simple and cozy look, I really did like it.  I think you should always dress cozy for doctor appointments, it makes them easier to deal with!!

Head on over to Heather's blog and check out other Pinspirations!

Sugar high

Well I'm a little bummed.  I failed my one hour glucose test yesterday.  I was actually rather surprised by this.  My number wasn't extremely high, but anything over a certain point is suspect and the test is basically pass/fail.  There is no room for "it's not that bad."

So I get to go back tomorrow and do the lovely 3 hour test and hope that I pass that one.  To be on the safe side, I'm doing a sugar detox today.  Yeah maybe that's cheating the day before my final exam, but I don't care.  I'll do whatever I can to ensure I can still enjoy some of my favorite fall goodies before the baby comes!  I'm sort of joking though - if it turns out I need to do a special diet, I'll do what I have to.  I'm just going to hope it doesn't come to that for now!

In other news, I'm loving this dress I bought on thrift store day.  I wasn't going to buy anymore summer clothes, but this dress, while it is like a sundress, I figured could easily be worn into winter with leggings and tights or boots.  So I was sold.  I also bought a very cute warmer sweater that day that matches it quite well.  It's not quite cold enough for that sweater today though, so I chose a lightweight sweater instead.  It's also raining today.  It's a good thing though, we kind of need it.  And it's almost a warm rain.  Kind of weird.

Anyway, that's my story for today.  I'm bringing my laptop to pass the time tomorrow as long as I can get onto the clinic's wi-fi, so at least I can keep up with all your blogs!  Wish me luck!

Girly fun and TV stuff

So I mentioned yesterday that over the weekend I had a girls night with my blogging buddies Lori and Cambria.  We had a good old girlie time complete with snacking, chatting, makeovers and an insane YouTube marathon.  The fantastic Lori was kind enough to do my makeup - the iPhone picture isn't of the greatest quality, but I thought she did a pretty fantastic job.  She's going to go makeup shopping with me in the near future and give me good suggestions to improve my skills!

Anyway, I always have a blast with these gals  - there is always a ton of laughter.  They just make me smile so much - I'm so thankful that we were introduced via blogging and now I consider them more than just blog friends, they're friends.  Period.  Check out Lori's recap over here as well - better pictures of my makeover! Thanks again Lori and Cambria for a fun night and for just being awesome!

Alas that was Saturday and we're well into the week now.  It's Tuesday and I get to take my glucose screening test today.  Joy of joys.  I'm not nervous about it, it's more a hassle than anything else.  At least I have a couple of good books to read while I'm waiting for an hour!

I'm excited because the Fall TV season is slowly starting up this week.  I can't wait for new New Girl episodes! I'm also excited about the Emmys this weekend.  I'm such an award show nerd.

Some of our other favorite shows from this summer are starting to wrap up - a couple of them for good.  I have been disappointed in Dexter, so I'm not sad about that one.  But Breaking Bad.  OMG.  I cannot breathe after this week's episode.  I swear that show gets more stressful by the week.  And yet, I'm going to kind of miss it!  It's just so well done.  Uffda.  Any shows you are excited about?  Any new ones you plan to check out?

Inspiration Monday - Work and play

Well, well, it's Monday again!  It always comes back around so fast doesn't it?  Especially when you have a pretty good weekend?  Oh well.  It's here and we deal with it!  Inspiration Monday always takes the sting out of Monday.  Today we have Michelle Williams and I'm seriously coveting her jacket.  It's amazing.  I did not use a jacket like that for my outfit.  That's ok.  I adore Michelle Williams - she inspired me to cut my hair when I first went to a short pixie.  I think it's so sweet that she keeps her hair so short in honor of the fact that Heath Ledger loved it on her.  But anyway - here's her look.

And now here's mine.  This was worn for Friday's workday and then date night with the Pants Monkey after. We're finally getting a taste of Fall weather here in Minnesota, so the jacket was kind of a necessity!  And I might not have an awesome jacket like Michelle's, but I love my blazer.  I don't remember when I bought it anymore, but it has gotten a lot of love from me!

So Friday night we went out to an Irish restaurant that we enjoy.  We sat outside and I was even more thankful for the jacket at that point, it was getting a wee bit chilly!  I was halfway tempted to convince the Pants Monkey to start a fire in our firepit when we got home, but instead we cuddled up inside with a movie. We watched The Big Year with Steve Martin, Jack Black and Owen Wilson - it's actually quite good and it's only rated PG, rather clean, so even some kiddos might like it.  They play birdwatchers.  Quite entertaining.

The rest of the weekend was pretty awesome as well.  We got out and golfed with my parents on Saturday morning and I was happy that I can still swing a club pretty well right now!  Doesn't mean I played well mind you, but it was a beautiful morning anyway.  Headed home and my dad and the Pants Monkey did some more of the nitty gritty work on the window before it started to rain (finally!  We've been in such a drought!). I headed out to have a girls night with the fabulous Lori and Cambria (more on that later this week).  And then Sunday we went out with my in-laws to start looking at cribs (!), found the one I think we'll be buying, then had lunch with them. Went home and worked on cleaning out little man's room some more and then made a yummy dinner of stuffed peppers from our CSA.  So overall, it was kind of one of those good weekends that was a mix of work and play and it felt pretty darn nice!

How were your weekends?  What's new?  And of course, don't forget to head over to two birds for more Inspiration Monday outfits!

Chaos theory

Happy Friday everyone!  So I tell you - I should never, EVER complain when things are boring - because the second I do, something happens and it isn't necessarily good!  Don't worry, everything is fine, I just ended up with a super crazy workday.

I think I've done a pretty good job of not complaining as much this time, but my boss has been out the last few weeks having her other knee done.  She figured she'd get it all done before she retires in January and I can't say I blame her. Anyway, she comes back on Monday and I was just noticing this week that everything has been pretty calm while she's been out this time.  Should have never had that thought either I guess!

So yesterday I'm plodding along minding my own business and thinking about how it was almost lunchtime when the power suddenly went out.  Then it popped back on right away so I didn't think anything of it at first - until I looked over at the wall and realized the generator had kicked in.  Being a clinic we have about half of our building - pretty much the essentials - hooked up to the generator.  So I realized the problem was a little bigger than just a power surge.  I couldn't get a hold of my maintenance supervisor and my phone was ringing off the hook from the other tenants in our building and then also the clinic right next door to us that we also manage.  I called the power company to report it and they had no clue of any problems, but said they'd look into it.  Within minutes though the outage map online showed a swath of people down for a good 5-7 mile radius around us.  I finally touched base with my maintenance guy and decided since we didn't know when we'd be back up and everyone had what they needed to get by, that I'd run to lunch real quick.  There were tons of lights out as I was driving a long so I knew it was a bigger problem at least than just our little area.  Fortunately by the time I came back after 45 minutes everything was back up.  Apparently some transformer blew at the power company or something.

There were other dumb things that blew up yesterday afternoon then, mostly via email because some people do not read an entire email chain, they instead respond to the first message in a given email and maybe don't realize the problem has been solved if they would just scroll a bit....but I digress.  So it was just a day.  At least I looked cute yesterday - love this shirt I got on thrift store day!  It's not a maternity top but could be.  I plan to keep it around for after baby too!

Today so far is calm and I hope it stays that way!  And we're on to the weekend and I have a pretty decent looking one on tap!  I hope you all have a great weekend too!

Not much to say

Good day all!  I hope everyone is having a good week!  It's been a bit longish in my world, but we're slowly getting closer to the coveted weekend!

I love that this dress of mine from the Pants Monkey has been able to grow with me.  It's such a comfy dress.  I added this shirt because I was a little chilly.  I tried tying at the waist to add some interest but it didn't look quite right, so free and loose it is!  I have always loved the way this dress is a good transitional piece into Fall - and we're finally getting some Fall weather, so it just felt perfect!

I seriously wish I had more witty and fun things to share, but I'm just coming up blank today!  Life is status quo right now and there certainly isn't anything wrong with that.  Sometimes boring is good right?

Good deals

So I recently discovered the awesomeness - or maybe the dangerousness - of the website Zulily.com.  I had heard of it once before I was ever pregnant and actually was getting the emails for awhile, because they have good deals for everyone, not just moms.  But then I thought, ok, I'm not using this, I'm going to unsubscribe. I ended up re-subscribing after getting pregnant and a few weeks ago, decided to make an order.  They had some nursing bras on sale and then I couldn't help but order this super cute shirt too.  The total cost wasn't bad at all and way under regular retail.

The only downside is, you have to wait until the "deal" is over before they'll process your order and ship your items.  So, I think I waited three weeks to get this stuff - but it was worth it.  I adore this shirt.  It's so soft and super comfy.  And of course - it has orange and we all know how much I love orange!

Necklace and bracelets - S&D
Sandals - Merona, Target

Apparently I'm practicing my flamingo pose in the above picture!  I assure you my leg was not amputated!  I think my leg was actually on the stair behind me.  Oops!

There are honestly so many other items I've seen in my daily Zulily emails that I've had to just pass up or I'd go broke.  There are good deals to be had, but you can't buy everything!  Have any of you ever ordered anything from Zulily?

Fud

So.  Let's talk food.  Yes, this is a fashion blog.  I have my outfit pictures from yesterday to share as well. But I want to talk about the awesomeness of my CSA share.  I've mentioned it a few times this summer on the blog here.  CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.  How a CSA works is, area farms sell shares of their produce and when you buy one, you get a box of goodies every week.

Back in January, my mother in law asked if we'd be willing to split a full share with them this summer.  It was an investment - but we decided to take the risk and see how things would go.  We also added a half dozen eggs to our order, which meant that in addition to a box of veggies each week that we split with my in-laws, we also get six farm fresh eggs.  I was nervous about doing this, I didn't know if we'd actually like the items we got or would be creative enough to use them all.  See, the challenge is - you don't necessarily know what you're getting each week until the day the box is delivered.  Much of it depends on how the season is going and you pretty much get what you get.  But, I've been very pleasantly surprised at how well we have been doing with this and I can honestly say, it's the best thing we did for ourselves this year.  I look forward to each Thursday when our new goodies arrive!

I've also mentioned before that the Pants Monkey loves to cook and is far more creative and willing to take risks in the kitchen than I am.  That may have helped us a great deal in making this CSA share work well for us.  I know my in-laws have actually struggled a bit with their items.  They also went out of town a couple of more times than we did this summer too.  Not everything is unusual - right now in fact we're getting very normal, common veggies - tomatoes, carrots, green beans, etc.  Earlier this summer is when we were getting more unusual items like kale, collards and fennel.  We've managed to try every single thing though and I have loved it all.  Because our growing season was late too we'll be enjoying products at least through the end of this month.  I will be sad when it's over!

Inspiration Monday - Not so bad

Hello everyone!  Did you all have good weekends?  As busy as mine was it was actually pretty decent all things considered. I almost feel like Monday is a welcome break though!!

I'm back at Inspiration Monday with two birds this week, though my look is a pretty loose interpretation once again.  Here we have Michelle Dockery from Dowton Abbey, a show I have yet to actually watch but do plan to when I finish some of the other series I've been working on like The Sopranos and Veronica Mars.  Might go on my watch list for my maternity leave for those rare moments that my child actually sleeps or maybe I'll stream it during late night feedings!

I do adore this simple look, I chose a lighter colored shirt and slightly longer skirt.  I did try to tuck it in but it didn't quite look right.  At any rate, I adore my mint top!  Also, I totally wore this outfit last week - today it's going to be crazy hot again, so this would have been way too warm!

So I have to say, even with our busy weekend we were able to be mildly productive.  We got some good work done on the baby's room.  No, not decorating yet.  You may recall that I've said in the past that our second bedroom used to act as a giant walk in closet for yours truly.  Our garage sale helped a bit with that, but there was still a lot of other stuff.  One thing I really wanted to keep was this hanging rack that I put all my jackets and blazers on.  We did some consolidation in our own bedroom and then were able to get that hanging rack into our room.  And it isn't even overcrowded or anything!  Back in the baby's room we were able to put a bookcase for the baby where the hanging rack once was.  So, I feel like we're making progress!  Slowly but surely!

Other than that we had a pretty full schedule with our music group, but we did manage a movie night on Saturday evening and a nice lunch out on Sunday in between all of that.  So in the end, it wasn't as bad of a weekend as I thought it could have been!

For more Inspiration Monday looks check out two birds over here.
