Here's the deal. I am a big social media junkie. I still love Facebook - I like keeping connected with friends and family and will admit to liking being able to stalk people I went to school with even if I am not really still "friends" with them. But, I have also realized that I had a lot of people on my friends list that I barely even know - or really don't care that much to follow. I kind of decided if I am using Facebook's "block from News Feed" feature - then maybe I don't really need them on my friends list at all.
So in the spirit of my simplify for 2014, I decided it was time to pare down. One of my college friends put it best - if you haven't interacted online with someone in over six months maybe it is best to let them go.
I don't feel that guilty about the folks I cut loose. I want to work on cultivating relationships with people I truly know and like and I feel that way especially now that I have a child.
Even though I use it less, I plan on doing the same with Twitter. I already did it a while back with Instagram too.
Maybe it sounds like I'm a bad person but I have to say, it just feels refreshing! I recommend it, it's like doing a cleanse of your online body!

I've done it -- and, like you, report good results. Ridding ourselves of clutter opens up space for positive new stuff.
ReplyDeleteI've done it before too! Nothing bad about doing it. It's just kind of funny all the people that send you friend requests and then you never hear from them. Kind of like being just a number. It's nice to "trim the fat" so to speak. Love you!
ReplyDeletei would do that, but it sees like a lot of work, and i'm lazy! do i need to check if we're still friends? ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are finding ways to simplify your life online as well as real life!
ReplyDeleteevery once in a while i go on facebook and unfriend people i hardly know, never speak to, and have no interest following, like old classmates from high school i added just because it was the cool thing to do. right now, i never go on facebook because there are too many posts from people i don't associate with but that causes me to miss out on posts from people i actually want to keep up with. so, i see absolutely nothing wrong with cleaning up and clearing out! chances are, the people you unfriend won't even know!
